The PhD fellowships will be associated with Aarhus School of Architecture’s Research Lab 3: Emerging Sustainable Architecture and, secondarily, with the related teaching programme of the same
Research lab 3 focuses on the relationship between the growing and current societal and environmental challenges related to the design of space and on the competencies, thinking and methods required to address these challenges. The research lab focuses on research questions that address the ever-increasing distance between global and local societal contexts. Cultural, social and technologically sustainable approaches, models and methods define the research field, in which these are studied with a focus on architectural potentials.
Aarhus School of Architecture is looking for PhD fellows with research projects that can contribute to rethinking the field of sustainable architecture. The PhD fellows will be part of a young research environment under construction and development. The research environment perceives sustainability as a current challenge that calls for radical thinking and action. We are looking for research projects that address this challenge and formulate innovative research questions relating to architectural sustainability and also explore and develop physical and spatial consequences and opportunities. We place a particular emphasis on projects that connect these questions to architecture as a specific building practice. The research projects must relate to the focus of the research lab.
Aarhus School of Architecture will give preference to applications based on Research by Design methods, as this is a prioritised focus area of the school.
The position requires enrolment in the PhD School with a view to acquiring a PhD degree in architecture. The PhD programme is a three-year scientific course of study. The position also involves teaching and dissemination. These activities will be connected with the research project.
The position is open from 1 September 2019. Remuneration will be in accordance with the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC-fællesoverenskomsten).
